Tomato Sambar ( Thakkali Sambar )

This is a sambar variety made for breakfast idly, dosa, Uppuma and paniyaram. My grandma called this as Veg Mutton Sambar when mixed with rice. I prepare this sambar atleast once a week. You can add as much as tomatoes you want. But reduce it if the tomatoes are sour. Me and my hubby always love this sambar especially with Rava Uppuma. Come lets try this sambar recipe.

Ingredients :

Small Onions - 1 Cup                                                   Preparation Time : 20 Min
Curry Leaf
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 Tsp                                              Serves : 4 People
Chilly Powder - 1 Tsp
Turmeric - 1/2 Tsp
Salt
Oil
To grind :
Tomato - 3
Coconut - 1/2 Cup
Garlic - 2 Pods
Fried Gram(Potukadali) - 1 Tbsp
Cinnamon - 1'' size
Cloves - 3
Coriander Seeds - 1 Tbsp
Fennel Seeds - 1 Tsp

Method :

Grind all the above ingredients given to smooth paste.

Cut the tomato and add to the grinded masala and grinded it for few seconds.

Heat the pan with 2 Tbsp oil, add mustard seeds, Onions, Curry leaves and saute it for few minutes.

Add the grinded masala in the pan, add chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt.

Add enough water to the masala and allow it to boil well.Close the pan with lid and stir it occasionally.  Do not allow the sambar to thicken. Switch off the flame and transfer it to a serving dish.

Serve hot with Idly, Dosa and Paniyaram. Add some ghee to the sambar while eating.

Thank You. See you in next post.
