Toor Dal Rasam (Paruppu Rasam)

Paruppu Rasam is made with toor dal and tamarind extract. Typical south Indian meals will never complete without rasam and usually  is good for digestion. There are various types of rasam and today i'll show you how to prepare Toor Dal Rasam.

Ingredients :

Toor Dal - 1/4 cup
Tamarind - Lime size
Tomato -1
Paruppu Rasam
Garlic - 2
Green Chilly - 2
Curry Leaf
Coriander Leaf
Badaga(Fried Onions)
Sugar- A Pinch
Salt - 1 Tsp
Hing
Oil

Method :

Soak Tamarind in 1/2 cup water for 1 hour. Then smash it well and filter the water separately in a bowl.

Pressure cook the Toor dal with 1 tomato. Then smash it well as a paste with a Utensil.

Mix the smashed Toor dal to the tamarind extract and add salt & sugar. Check if the Tamarind  & salt is perfect. It must have a combination of sour and slight sweet taste.

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and add Badaga(dried onions), Garlic, Green chilly, Hing & Curry leaf. Saute it for 2 min.

Pour the Tamarind toor dal mixed water in the pan & slightly close it with a lid. You'll note a froth appearing at the surface of the boiling rasam. Switch off the stove immedietly. Dont let it boil heavily for a long time.

Garnish with coriander leaves. Transfer it to a bowl. Serve with rice and pappad.

Enjoy.

Thank You. See you in next post.
