MoongDal Upma, Pachai Payaru Upma ( Hesaru Upma)

Moong Dal Upma is a very tasty & healthy recipe. Moong dal is rich in Iron and protein. I love this recipe. I usually soak it overnight and grind it morning. And prepare this Upma for dinner. This flour doesn't need to be fermented but just make the flour batter 4-6 hrs prior making the idly's.

Ingredients :

Moong Dal - 1 cup                                                           Soaking Time : 2 Hrs
Urad dal - 1 Tbsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 Tsp                                                  Cooking Idly : 15 min
Urad dal - 1/4 Tsp
Kadalai Paruppu - 1 Tsp                                                  Frying Upma : 15 min
Small Onions - 2 cups chopped
Red Chilly - 3                                                                   Serves : 2 People
Curry Leaf/ Coriander leaf
Oil - 5 Tbsp

Hesaru Uma

Method :

Soak Moong Dal and Urad Dal for 2 Hrs. Wash it well and grind it smooth in a mixer.

Transfer it to a bowl, add 1/2 Tsp salt & mix it well. Leave the batter for 4-6 Hrs. Heat the idly vessel and pour the batter in it & steam it.

Steam the Idly's for 15 min. You'll note the Idly's is been cooked well & fluffy. Transfer it to a bowl.

Smash the Idly's into crumbs or crushed pieces. Just crush when it is hot otherwise it may become hard.

Heat 5 Tbsp oil in a pan & add Mustard seeds, Urad dal, Kadalai Parupu(channa dal) in it. Add Onion, Red chilly, Curry leaves & Coriander leaves. Saute it.

Finally add smashed Idly's and stir it well. Add more oil if needed. Cook it for 10 min.

Serve Hot with coconut chutney.

Thank You. See you in next post.
