This is a usual potato sambar made in our family. It a breakfast sambar used as a side dish for Idly's and Dosa.
Ingredients :
Cooked Potato - 4 Preparation Time : 30 Min
Tomato -1
Onions - 1/2 cup Serves : 4 People
Curry leaf/ Coriander leaf
Coconut - 4 Tbsp
Fried Gram - 1 Tbsp
Salt
Oil
To fry & grind :
Coriander seeds - 1 Tbsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 Tsp
Fennel seeds - 1/2 Tsp
Red chilly - 2
Cinnamon - small piece
Cloves - 3
Channa dal -1/2 Tsp
Urad - 1/2 Tsp
Dry onions(Badaga) - few
Rice - 1 Tsp
Method :
Heat few drops of oil in a pan and fry 1 Tsp Rice. Then add all other ingredients above and slightly toast it.
Once it cools down add it to a mixer grind with 4 Tbsp coconut and 1 Tbsp Fried gram. Grind it to a smooth paste.
Heat a pan with 2 Tbsp oil and add mustard seeds, Onions, Tomato & curry leaves. Saute it. Pour the grinded masala to it.
Add enough water to the masala. Add Turmeric powder & salt. Let it boil well. Meanwhile cook the potatoes and smash it .
Cook until the raw smell goes off. Add the smashed potatoes and mix it well. Close the pan with a plate slightly. Cook it for another 5 Min. Dont leave the sambar to thicken. Switch off the stove and transfer it to a serving dish.
Potato sambar is ready. Enjoy it with hot Idly or Dosa or Rotis.
