Lima Beans Gravy, Mochakotai Kulambu, Avarai Kootu



Ingredients :

Lima Beans/ Mochakotai - 1/2 Cup                                      Cooking Time : 30 Min
Eggplant/Brinjal - 4
Onions - 1/2 Cup                                                                   Serves : 4 People
Tomato - 1
Avarai Kootu
Curry/Coriander Leaf
Ginger - 1'' size
Garlic - 4 Pods
Chilly Powder - 1/4 Tsp
Dried Onions - 1 Tsp
Kootu Podi/ Sambar podi - 2 Tsp
Tamarind Juice - 2 Tbsp
Turmeric - 1/4 Tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/4 Tsp
Asafoetida - A Pinch
Salt
Oil


Method :

Soak the Lima Beans overnight for at-least 8-10 hrs. Pressure cook it for 4 whistles.


Open the pressure cooker and check if the lima beans is cooked soft, add 2 cups water to it. Switch on the stove. Once the water is boiled, add chopped brinjal, tomato, Ginger, Garlic, Badaga and Curry Leaf. Cook for 10 Minutes.


Finally add Chilly Powder, Kottu podi(Sambar Podi), Tamarind Juice and Salt.


The egg plant/Brinjal has to get soft. You can even pressure cook for 1 whistle.


Once the curry thickens turn off the pan. Heat a small pan with oil and add mustard seeds and Asafoetida powder. Add the oil to the curry and stir well.


Transfer it to a serving bowl.


This is a special recipe served on all festive occasions, marriages etc.,
