Sweet Pongal (Sakkarai Pongal )

    Sakkarai Pongal is one of the traditional food cooked on Pongal festival (Festival of harvest). Many temples also offers it has prasadam to the people. Sakkarai Pongal tastes yummy and definitely its a mouth watering dish.

Ingredients :

Raw Rice - 1 Cup                                                     Preparation Time : 30 min
Jaggery( Powdered ) - 1 1/2 Cup
Cardamom Powder - 1 Tsp                                       Serves : 4 people
Cashew - 10 pcs
Raisins  -  2 Tbsp
Water - 3 Cups
Ghee - 1/2 Cup



Method :
Soak the rice in water for 30 min. Meanwhile crush the Jaggery cubes into powder.
Pressure cook the rice with 3 cups of water until you get 3 whistles.



Open the pressure cooker lid, add Jaggery to it and smash it well. The jaggery will start dissolving, keep on stirring the rice.

Stir until the moisture in the rice gets well absorbed. Add Cardamom powder to it and stir.

Take another pan in a stove and add 2 Tbsp ghee. Once it gets heated add Cashews and Raisins and fry it until it turns golden brown.

Add Fried Cashews and Raisins to the rice and mix well. Add remaining ghee and stir. Reduce to low flame and close it for 5 min. 


Pongal is ready to serve.
